Suspected Chinese spies charged

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said Monday that two Chinese intelligence officers are accused of trying to bribe a U.S. official who was working as a double agent for the FBI. Garland said the two tried to pay tens of thousands of dollars in digital currency along with cash and jewelry to the official to steal confidential information about the United States’ prosecution of the Chinese tech giant Huawei.

Does this sort of thing happen often? In addition to the two men on Monday, 11 other Chinese nationals have been charged with offenses in the past week, including harassment of people in the United States. FBI Director Christopher Wray said the alleged crimes illustrate China’s “economic assaults” on foreign powers.
