Survivors rescued from Italian hotel buried by avalanche
Rescue crews located at least six—possibly eight—survivors early Friday inside an Italian hotel slammed by an avalanche Wednesday. One woman and one boy were airlifted out. An Italian firefighter, Giuseppe Romano, says the crews have indications of possibly another five survivors who have responded to signals. About 30 people were believed trapped in the Hotel Rigopiano when the avalanche hit, collapsing the building and burying it under up to 15 feet of snow, dirt, and trees. Four bodies have been found since rescue crews reached the hotel on skis Thursday morning.
