Student kills nine in Serbian school shooting
The 13-year-old Serbian student who allegedly opened fire at a school this morning was targeting specific students, said Belgrade senior police official Veselin Milic. The shooter killed a school guard and eight students. Seven other people were wounded. He had drawn a detailed mockup of the school that authorities found on his desk, Milic said. Police do not yet know his motive.
How did the police stop the shooter? The student called the police himself after the attack, though authorities were already on their way. The teen carried two guns belonging to his father, authorities said. The guns were kept in a safe but the teen apparently knew the code. The shooter’s father has also been arrested. Mass shootings are relatively rare in Serbia. The last one was in 2013 when a veteran shot 13 people in a village.
