Student killed in Nashville school shooting
A 17-year-old shooter killed one female student and injured another on Wednesday when he opened fire on the Antioch High School cafeteria just after 11 a.m. The shooter ultimately took his own life with the pistol used in the attack, Nashville Police Department spokesman Don Aaron said at a news conference later that day. The injured student suffered a graze wound and her condition had stabilized as of Wednesday afternoon, Aaron said. The department's homicide unit will lead the ongoing investigation, the spokesman added.
Where were the school resource officers? Aaron said the two officers assigned to the school were not near the cafeteria when the attack began. The suspected gunman had already shot himself by the time resource officers entered the lunchroom, Aaron said.
What is known about the shooter? Authorities initially described the shooter as a 17-year-old student, later identifying the suspect as Solomon Henderson.
