Storms, tornadoes rip through the South

The National Weather Service has confirmed at least 18 tornadoes over the past two days in Arkansas, Missouri, North Texas, Florida, and Kansas. Two people died and two more were injured in Washington County, Fla., on Thursday where authorities say there is “total destruction” of several homes and police are manning roads filled with debris and downed power lines. Another tornado identified in Louisiana on Thursday afternoon followed the same path as one last week.

What was the damage? About 185,000 customers were without electricity on Thursday morning in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan, according to PowerOutage.us. A warehouse roof collapsed in Southaven, Miss., but no one was injured, and paneling on a hotel in Nashville, Tenn., fell five stories. The storm caused significant damage to a nursing home in Jackson, Miss., authorities said.
