States push back on "Pride Month" with focus on traditional families
In recent days and weeks, as many states have prepared to celebrate June as Pride Month, other states are choosing instead to designate the month as a time to focus on traditional families, rather than the LGBTQ agenda. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey marked June as a month to celebrate homes with stable parents, dubbing it Strong Families Month, according to a proclamation issued last week. Strong families led by a father and mother give children structure and discipline necessary for success, Ivey said.
Indiana Gov. Mike Braun also issued a proclamation on Monday dubbing June as Nuclear Family Month. Committed families play a vital role in shaping the future and impact multiple generations, Braun wrote. Indiana will continue supporting policies that strengthen families and the next generation, he continued. The Freedom From Religion Foundation pushed back on Braun’s recent order in a Tuesday statement. Pride Month exists because LGBT people feel marginalized and excluded, and families are celebrated throughout the year, the group wrote.
What other states honor a family-centered month? Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders formally declared June as Fidelity Month back in May. Fostering fidelity to God, family, and community supports a healthy and stable society, according to the order. Practices encouraging virtue, commitment, and shared moral foundations strengthen individuals and their overall communities, the order stated.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee also in April signed a measure passed by the state legislature declaring June as Nuclear Family Month. The nuclear family is God’s perfect design for humans and is under attack in the state, according to the resolution. The nuclear family is Tennessee’s most basic building block and the government has a responsibility to uplift and protect values that allow citizens to prosper, the order added.
