State Dept. reopens investigation of Clinton email use
Officials with the State Department said today they will reopen the internal investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state. The department suspended its investigation in April so as not to interfere with the FBI’s inquiry into whether Clinton and her associates mishandled classified information. When the probe was launched almost six months ago, officials said it pertained particularly to a set of emails that were upgraded to one of the nation’s highest classification levels. They were investigating whether any of the emails were classified at the time of transmission. State Department spokesman John Kirby said the probe is restarting after the Justice Department’s announcement Wednesday that it won’t bring any criminal charges against Clinton.
