Shooting in Italy targeted migrants

A gunman wounded six African immigrants Saturday in a drive-by shooting in Macerata, Italy, just days after a Nigerian man was arrested in gruesome killing of a teenager there. Authorities identified the shooting suspect as Luca Traini, a 28-year-old Italian man affiliated with the anti-migrant political party known as the League. A video posted by the newspaper il Resto di Carlino showed a man with an Italian flag draped over his shoulders being arrested by armed officers in the city center. Italy is gearing up for a general election March 14, and League candidate Matteo Salvini has referenced the killing of 18-year-old Pamela Mastropietro in Macerata as evidence of the need to deport migrants. Mastropietro’s dismembered body was found in two suitcases outside the small town.
