Shooter, eight kids dead in Louisiana domestic assault
A total of 10 people were hit by gunfire in domestic disturbance in Shreveport, La., early Sunday morning. The shooting began before 6 a.m. and sprawled over four locations, Shreveport police said, starting at two residences, continuing at a third, and ending once police caught up to an adult suspect, who had fled by carjacking. The eight deceased children ranged in age from 1 to 14 years. Shreveport police were unable to share a motive for the suspect during a morning news conference. Some of the children were thought to be descendants of the adult suspect, also deceased following an officer-involved shooting, police said.
What else do we know? Louisiana State Police detectives were assisting Shreveport police in the investigation of the officer-involved shooting. That shooting took place following a pursuit into Bossier City on Brompton Lane, according to a state police statement. One subject was shot and pronounced dead, but no officers were harmed during the incident, state police said.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux at the news conference asked people to pray at their church services later in the day. The violence has devastated the whole community, he said. “We have hurting families, we have hurting police officers, coroners’ personnel, fire department.”
