Shimon Peres in serious condition after suffering stroke

Former Israeli President Shimon Peres is showing slight improvement after suffering a major stroke yesterday. Although he remains in serious condition at a hospital near Tel Aviv, doctors say he has experienced a “certain improvement” in his neurological functions. Peres, a 93-year-old Nobel laureate, is Israel’s last surviving link to its founding fathers. During the last seven decades, he served three terms as prime minister and also served as the country’s foreign and finance minister. He left office in 2014 after completing a seven-year term as president. Hours before suffering the stroke, Peres delivered an hour-long lecture and uploaded a video to his Facebook page encouraging Israelis to buy local products. Peres won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 for his work on an accord with the Palestinians.
