Several dead and dozens more injured after India billboard collapse
The collapse of a billboard sign in Mumbai killed 14 people and injured 74 on Monday, according to Indian journalist Shiv Aroor. According to a video in Aroor’s social media post, the collapse occurred during a rainstorm. Earlier on Monday, the chief minister of the state of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, visited the site, his office posted. The total numbers of dead and injured cited by that post were accurate at the time but are now outdated.
How did one billboard kill and injure that many people? The billboard was more than 14,400 square feet, a Reuters news service report stated. Aroor alleged that local authorities had not approved the size of the billboard. Police officers and other emergency personnel were working to evacuate survivors from the rubble, according to the statement.
