Sen. Kelly Ayotte loses in New Hampshire

Democrats have captured the seat of first-term Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H. Gov. Maggie Hassan bested Ayotte in one of the most competitive Senate races in the nation. Democrats have picked up one other Republican-held Senate seat—that of Sen. Mark Kirk Illinois, who lost to Democratic Rep. Tammy Duckworth. Ayotte was a vocal critic of Donald Trump throughout the campaign season. She skipped the Republican National Convention in July, electing to stay on the campaign trail at home and hopefully avoid controversy.
