School shooting plot uncovered in Rockville, Md.

Prosecutors charged an 18-year-old high school student with threatening mass violence for planning a school shooting, according to a Montgomery County Department of Police statement. The charges and arrest followed the Federal Bureau of Investigation notifying the MCPD about a manifesto the suspect authored.

What was in the manifesto? The 129-page document detailed strategies for how to carry out a mass shooting and suggested the suspect would target an elementary school, according to MCPD. The manifesto also suggested that the suspect desired to become famous. Authorities obtained a warrant and conducted further searches that yielded drawings and documents related to threats of mass violence.

What happens next? Authorities will hold a joint press conference on Friday to discuss the situation and provide a more detailed report.
