Russian rockets kill 22 in attack on train station

In addition to the fatalities, 50 more Ukrainian citizens were wounded Tuesday in a Russian missile strike on Ukraine’s Independence Day and the war’s six-month anniversary, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. The missile struck the town of Chaplyne, which has about 3,500 residents. Ukraine’s presidential office reported that an 11-year-old child was among the dead in another part of the region.

How are other countries marking the day? Outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Kyiv. Other Western countries, including Germany and France, took the opportunity to pledge their unwavering support to Ukraine. The United States announced a new package of $3 billion dollars in military aid, which includes weaponry that may not be deployed in the war for another year or so, according to U.S. officials. The U.S. aid package also includes training Ukrainian forces.
