Russian invasion reaches one-month mark
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged people around the world to turn out on their squares and streets Thursday, exactly one month after Russia began its invasion of Ukraine. Gunfire and near-constant shelling rocked the capital city of Kyiv on Wednesday as Russian and Ukrainian troops battled for control of the city’s suburbs. Ukraine’s defense ministry claimed it destroyed the Orsk, a Russian landing ship used to deliver supplies to the port of Berdyansk, some 50 miles west of the besieged city of Mariupol.
How is the United States responding? The Biden administration declared the actions of Russian troops amount to war crimes. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the U.S. would work to hold the offenders accountable. He travels with President Joe Biden to Brussels for a NATO meeting about the war in Ukraine on Thursday.
