Russia bombs homes in Ukraine

Russia struck an apartment building and campsite in Serhiivka, Ukraine, with three missiles Friday. At least 21 people died, including two children, and 38 others were injured. The town is just 31 miles south of Odesa, the port city near where Russia abandoned Snake Island on Thursday. After the strike, Russia reiterated its earlier claim that it is not targeting civilian infrastructure despite destroying a crowded shopping mall and theater, as well as residential neighborhoods and shelters.

What’s happening in eastern Ukraine? The city of Lysychansk, in the Luhansk province in the eastern Donbas region, is under constant shelling, the governor of the province said. Residents are sheltering in basements almost all the time as heavy artillery destroys houses one by one, he said.  Russia is trying to encircle Lysychansk, fighting for control of an oil refinery on its outskirts.
