Russia attacks key base in western Ukraine
At least 35 people died and more than 100 were injured when Russian missiles pounded a military installation that accepted weapons and supplies from NATO. More than 30 cruise missiles struck the sprawling facility Sunday near the Poland-Ukraine border. Also on Sunday, advancing Russian forces near Kyiv killed American journalist and filmmaker Brent Renaud. National security adviser Jake Sullivan was in Rome on Monday for meetings with a top Chinese official. U.S. officials say China is attempting to provide cover for a potential Russian biological or chemical weapons attack on Ukrainians.
What is China doing? Sullivan said Beijing recently repeated false Russian claims that the United States was financing Ukrainian chemical and biological weapons labs. “When Russia starts accusing other countries of potentially doing something, it’s a good tell that they may be on the cusp of doing it themselves,” he said.
