Report: 1,000 Russian athletes involved in doping conspiracy
A new report implicates more than 1,000 Russian athletes as part of an organized doping conspiracy over a four-year period. The report, released today by World Anti-Doping Agency investigator Richard McLaren, is the second part of an investigation into allegations of state-sponsored doping, particularly during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. “The Russian Olympic team corrupted the London games on an unprecedented scale, the extent of which will probably never be fully established,” McLaren said. The corruption involved swapping out and manipulating samples, covering up positive drug tests, and false reporting. The Russian Sports Ministry has denied any state-sponsored doping system.
