Refrigerator sparked deadly London tower fire
London fire investigators believe a refrigerator sparked the fire at the Grenfell Tower that killed 79 people June 14. They also revealed the cladding recently installed on the building during a renovation failed fire safety tests. Prime Minister Theresa May has ordered an investigation into the refrigerator model, which has not triggered any product recalls. Officials are mulling a range of possible charges related to the fire. “We are looking at every criminal offense from manslaughter onwards, we are looking at every health and safety and fire safety offenses and we are reviewing every company at the moment involved in the building and refurbishment of Grenfell Tower,” said Metropolitan Police Detective Superintendent Fiona McCormack. So far, investigators have found 11 other buildings throughout Britain with the same combustible cladding used at Grenfell. On Friday, police officials also urged people to come forward with any information about families that might have been living illegally in the public housing tower. “What we haven’t got is a picture of how many people might have been in there. That’s the number I’m really worried about,” McCormack said.
