Protesters vent disappointment over Trump election
Protesters in major cities across the country, mostly in areas that supported Hillary Clinton for president, took to the streets again last night to decry Donald Trump’s election. They carried signs that said “Not my president” and chanted slogans like, “She got more votes!” In cities like Chicago and New York, where Trump’s company has buildings prominently bearing his name, protesters gathered outside to burn the president-elect in effigy. Most of the demonstrations remained peaceful, but violence broke out in Oakland, Calif., when the angry crowd began throwing rocks and fireworks at police. Three officers suffered minor injuries. Police in New York arrested about 65 people, mostly for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. About 7,000 people eventually took to the streets of Oakland, where police reported 40 trash fires and 16 cases of vandalism, including graffiti and looting.
