Promiscuity means big business for Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood is at it again, ignoring facts and encouraging teens to embrace a lifestyle that comes with dangerous consequences.

Alex, one of the proclaimed “experts” on the organization’s Tumblr, recently set out to answer this question: “Is promiscuity a bad thing?” Considering Planned Parenthood is one of the largest abortion providers, its answer was predictable—of course not. Quite the opposite, actually.

Alex first decried using the word “promiscuous” at all. It doesn’t have a set standard, he said, and can refer to “a whole variety of sexual behaviors.” Regardless of what it refers to, it’s usually used in a judgmental way, to shame people.

“Since the number of sexual partners you’ve had doesn’t say anything about your character, your morals, or your personality—or about anything at all really—there’s nothing bad or unhealthy about having a big number of sexual partners,” the post declared.

Never mind the fact that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says abstinence and monogamy are the most reliable ways to avoid contracting STDs, or the studies they have to back up the advice. Of course, Planned Parenthood’s business is providing the condoms and abortions they claim take care of any risks, and increased demand is good for business.

That’s the caveat to their claim. People have “safe” ways to be promiscuous, according to Alex—make sure to use birth control and condoms. The conclusion of the post is that, provided young people are taking the suggested precautions and feel “satisfied and confident” about their decision, they should “go for it.” It’s the usual message from Planned Parenthood, if stated more explicitly: Sex comes with no negative consequences, provided you use our products. Alex makes no mention of the emotional and physical consequences of both the lifestyle and the offered solutions.

But aside from the blatant errors in Planned Parenthood’s facts, its view of sex is perhaps the most concerning part of Alex’s “answer.” Whatever differences Christians and Planned Parenthood have had on the issue of sex—and there are many—they have always agreed on one thing: It is important. In fact, Planned Parenthood’s close cousins in the pro-gay movement claim sexual identity is inherent in a person’s individuality. But Alex claims just the opposite—a person’s sexual choices have no bearing on anything, not character, morals, or personality.

The claim that people’s sexual lifestyle doesn’t say anything about them reduces their choices to the level of any other arbitrary decision.
