Pro-abortion group drops “pro-choice” from name to gain support
Abortion advocacy group NARAL Pro-Choice America said Wednesday it will now be known as Reproductive Freedom for All. Research showed communities across the United States support the idea of reproductive freedom, though not necessarily abortion, according to a news release. President of Reproductive Freedom for All Mini Timmaraju said swapping “pro-choice” for “freedom” in the organization name will create “a clearer and more inclusive path forward” and expand the group’s support base.
Is it odd that the group changed its name months before a presidential election year? It’s not the first time the group has changed its name to remove abortion verbiage before an election. The group was originally founded in 1969 as the National Association of the Repeal of Abortion Laws but changed its name to NARAL Pro-Choice in 2003. The change dropped the word “abortion” from being directly mentioned in their name before the 2004 presidential election.
