President Biden visits Israel amid ongoing war
The president is visiting Israel Wednesday for bilateral talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,. Biden is also expected to travel to Jordan to meet with Jordanian King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The White House said that Biden hoped to show firm support for Israel and consult on the next steps.
What is happening in Gaza? Hundreds of tons of humanitarian aid have been waiting for days at the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Israel. It is the only route out of Gaza not controlled by Israel. Egyptian officials said the intersection will remain closed until an agreement is reached to allow foreign national Palestinians out of Gaza and allow aid into the area. The United States and Israel are working on a plan to enable support in the region, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Monday.
