Prelim hearing underway in Charlie Kirk murder case
A preliminary hearing began Monday morning for a 23-year-old Utah man charged with killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Prosecutors began laying out their case against defendant Tyler Robinson, who could face the death penalty if convicted of Kirk’s Sept. 10 assassination on the campus of Utah Valley University. The hearing will determine if the prosecution has enough evidence against Robinson to proceed to a trial for a charge of aggravated murder.
Kirk’s parents and his widow, Erika Kirk, are attending the hearing, which could last up to a week.
Kirk, age 31, was an outspoken Christian, an ally of President Donald Trump’s and the founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative youth organization. The FBI has already released video evidence and made public many details of the case.
