Wounded Louisville police officer in stable condition

Rookie officer Nickolas Wilt was in critical but stable condition on Tuesday after being shot in the head on Monday, according to University of Louisville Hospital Chief Medical Officer Jason Smith. Police officials described Wilt’s prognosis as “hopeful.” A mass shooting suspect at Old National Bank in downtown Louisville shot and injured Wilt, 26, while he was responding to the in-progress incident. Officers shot and killed the shooting suspect, police said, but not before he killed four people and injured eight others. Wilt and another officer were among those injured—the other injured officer was shot in the elbow.

What more do we know about the shooting? Police say the attack appears to have been targeted. The shooter was an employee at the bank and appeared to be targeting his coworkers. Authorities say that the shooter legally purchased the firearm he used six days before the attack.
