Police kill 13-year-old robbery suspect who had BB gun
Police in Columbus, Ohio, shot and killed a 13-year-old robbery suspect who brandished a BB gun that looked “practically identical” to a police weapon Wednesday night. At a press conference today, Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs showed a picture of the weapon allegedly carried by Tyree King, saying it “looks like a firearm that could kill you.” Demetrius Braxton, 19, told The Columbus Dispatch that he and Tyree robbed someone earlier in the night. When police approached them to question them about the robbery, Tyree fled. Officers followed him into an alley and shot him when he pulled out the weapon, police said. Department officials insisted Tyree’s death differed greatly from that of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, whom police in Cleveland shot and killed in 2014. Rice was shot at a public gazebo in the afternoon while pulling a pellet gun from his waistband.
