Playwright Edward Albee dies
Playwright Edward Albee, best known for Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf, died Friday. He was 88. Throughout his long career, Albee won three Pulitzer Prizes and numerous Tony's, penning more than 30 plays. He continued writing into his 70s, enjoying a spurt of fruitfulness in 2008—the year he turned 80. Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf gained its widest attention in its film version, winning five Oscars in 1966. Like many of Albee's works, the dark play revolves around a broken marriage relationship and heavy drinking.
