Planned Parenthood to spend $40 million in 2024 election

The abortion organization told the Associated Press Monday that its political advocacy arm will use the funding to promote President Joe Biden and Democratic congressional candidates across the country. Planned Parenthood will target elections in Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, where Biden won in 2020. The group will also infuse funding into his campaign in North Carolina and into congressional campaigns in Montana, New Hampshire, and New York, according to the Associated Press. The news agency went on to report that the funds will be used for canvassing programs, phone banking, and advertising, citing Planned Parenthood.

Has Planned Parenthood spent this much in previous years? The abortion provider spent $45 million ahead of the 2020 presidential election and $50 million ahead of the 2022 midterms. Planned Parenthood regularly endorses congressional candidates in key races that could determine which political party controls the House or the Senate.

Are other organizations funding pro-abortion campaigns? The Democratic National Convention plans to invest at least $8.3 million across the country this election cycle, CBS News reported on Monday, citing a DNC memo. The DNC has also given grants to candidates in battleground state elections to focus messaging on abortion.  Meanwhile, the pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America said in February that it will spend $92 million in eight battleground states. Voters in Arizona, Nevada, South Dakota, and Florida will vote on pro-abortion initiatives in November.
