Passenger plane carrying more than 60 people crashes in Brazil

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during a speech on Friday asked people to stand up and observe a moment of silence for the victims who died in the crash. All 58 passengers and 4 crew members aboard the plane lost their lives, Lula said. The plane crashed in the city of Vinhedo, in São Paulo, according to Lula. Vinhedo is roughly 320 miles west of Rio de Janeiro.

What happened? The aircraft was 14 years old, according to online flight tracker Flightradar24. The plane was flying at roughly 17,000 feet through an area with a severe icing warning between 12,000 and 21,000 feet just before it crashed, the site added.
