Paris explosion injures dozens

Emergency workers on Wednesday searched for several people they suspected were trapped under the rubble of the facade of a building that collapsed in Paris. The building in the city’s Latin Quarter housed the Paris American Academy, a private school. Roughly 270 firefighters put out the blaze that ensued after the blast. French authorities evacuated nearby buildings.

What caused the explosion? Officials said it was too early to determine the cause of the explosion. Police were investigating the possibility of a gas leak. Meanwhile, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said investigators were looking into whether violations of safety rules contributed to the explosion. At least 24 people were injured in the blast.
