Pakistani terrorists free American-Canadian couple

Pakistani officials on Wednesday freed an American woman, her Canadian husband, and their three children from a terror group with ties to the Taliban. The Haqqani network captured Caitlan Coleman of Stewartstown, Pa., and her husband Joshua Boyle in 2012. Coleman, pregnant at the time, gave birth to all three of her children while in captivity. In 2013, the terror group released two videos of the couple asking the U.S. government to facilitate their release. Unlike Islamic State and other terror groups, the Haqqani network prefers to hold Western hostages for ransom and doesn’t often execute them. Terrorists snatched Coleman and Boyle in Afghanistan, the last stop on a trip that included Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Jim and Lyn Coleman last heard from their daughter in November 2015. In that letter, she told them about her second child. U.S. officials have long criticized Pakistan for not cracking down on the Haqqani network and other terror groups. President Donald Trump issued a veiled threat to the country’s leaders in a recent speech outlining his Afghanistan policy: “We have been paying Pakistan billions and billions of dollars at the same time they are housing the very terrorists that we are fighting. But that will have to change, and that will change immediately.”
