Over 50 dead in Egypt militant clashes

At least 54 policemen died Friday night in a firefight with militants outside Cairo, authorities said. The clash happened as security forces attempted to raid a militant hideout in the al-Wahat al-Bahriya area in Giza governorate. Egypt is struggling against an insurgency led by an affiliate of Islamic State (ISIS) in the northern region of the Sinai Peninsula. The country has been under a state of emergency since bombings and suicide attacks by ISIS targeting minority Coptic Christians killed scores earlier this year.
