One dead as car explodes outside Trump’s Las Vegas hotel
A Tesla Cybertruck pulled up to the glass entrance doors of Trump International Hotel Las Vegas began smoking before exploding, police said. The incident was reported at approximately 8:40 a.m. local time, Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told reporters at a Wednesday news conference.
What do we know about the deceased individual? One person found dead at the scene had been inside the vehicle, McMahill said. He told reporters investigators had not yet determined the victim’s sex. Seven other people received minor injuries from the explosion, McMahill said. Clark County Deputy Chief Tommy Touchstone said firefighters arrived on the scene within four minutes of the initial report and assisted victims, two of whom were sent to the hospital for treatment.
What else do we know about the incident? The FBI is investigating. McMahill said investigators were well aware of a suspected terrorist incident earlier Wednesday in which a suspect drove a vehicle into a crowd of people during a New Year’s Day celebration, killing at least 10. He said they are taking that incident into account.
Has Trump responded? The president-elect’s son, Eric Trump, thanked local law enforcement for their swift response.
