Oklahoma police kill suspect after weeklong manhunt

An Oklahoma state trooper on Sunday shot and killed a man who’d been on the run for a week after he allegedly killed two relatives and wounded three police officers. Investigators say Michael Dale Vance Jr., 38, shot a woman Oct. 23 and stole her car, using it to drive to the home of relatives. Ronald Everett Wilkson, 55, and Valerie Kay Wilkson, 54, were both shot and had stab wounds consistent with attempted decapitation, police said. Shortly afterward, Vance shot and wounded two police officers, prompting a massive manhunt that included state law enforcement officials as well as U.S. Marshals. A farmer in Leedey, about 130 miles northwest of Oklahoma City, spotted Vance’s car in his field and called police. They caught up with him about 30 minutes later, killing him after a brief but dramatic shootout. Police believe Vance’s upcoming court date to face felony child sex abuse charges might have prompted the rampage.
