Oklahoma again braces for worst after weekend storms

The National Weather Service in Oklahoma City on Monday morning warned of a tornado as strong storms moved across the region. Thunderstorms were forecast to bring heavy rain and strong winds to about 10 states in the central part of the country, according to the weather service. Parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri were especially at risk Monday of large hail and tornadoes.

What happened over the weekend? Storms on Saturday and Sunday injured at least 11 people, according to the Oklahoma City Fire Department. More than 12,000 people in Oklahoma were still without power Monday morning. Tornadoes destroyed dozens of homes and businesses across the state. Meanwhile, several school districts closed or used virtual instruction on Monday because of the storm threat.
