Obama, Trump set aside differences in first meeting

No trace of the preelection acrimony between President Barack Obama and President-elect Donald Trump appeared to mar their meeting at the White House this morning. Trump said he looked forward to receiving Obama’s “counsel,” and Obama said he would do everything he could to help Trump succeed. While Obama and Trump met, their wives also got together privately in another part of the White House residence. Vice President Joe Biden will meet with his successor, Mike Pence, later today. True to his preelection form, Trump bucked tradition by refusing to allow members of the press to join him on his private plane as he flew to Washington or in his motorcade as he traveled to the White House. During their visit to the nation’s capital, Trump and Pence also plan to meet with House Majority Leader Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to discuss the party’s legislative agenda.
