North Korean leader’s sister to visit Olympics
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s sister will attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea on Friday, Seoul’s Unification Ministry said. North Korea notified the South that Kim Jo Yong will accompany the delegation led by the North Korean nominal head of state, Kim Yong Nam. The ministry’s statement said her inclusion is meaningful because she serves as a senior official in the ruling Workers’ Party. Kim Jo Yong will be the first member of the party to visit South Korea since the end of the Korean War in 1953. Earlier Wednesday, 280 North Koreans arrived in South Korea, including a 229-member cheering squad, 26 taekwondo performers, and some journalists, among others.
