North Korea could soon launch first spy satellite

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said the country’s first spy satellite is finished, state media reported Wednesday. No date for the launch has been announced. Previous test launches seem to show that North Korea can put a satellite into space, although critics say the photos from the test launches were of low quality.

What does this mean? Kim said a military reconnaissance satellite is crucial for the deployment of the country’s nuclear-capable missiles. He ordered several satellites to be built to create an intelligence-gathering network. North Korea plans to use the satellite as a tool to counter what it considers security threats by the United States and South Korea.
