Nine shot on south Florida beach boardwalk
Gunfire erupted on the crowded Hollywood Beach Boardwalk on Memorial Day night. Nine beachgoers—four children aged 1 to 17 and five adults aged 25 to 65—sustained injuries. Police quickly detained multiple suspects and took one person of interest into custody. They are still searching for other suspects. The EMTs also responded quickly, which led to nine of the victims being declared stable, said Memorial Healthcare System spokeswoman Yanet Obarrio Sanchez.
How did a holiday at the beach turn violent? Before the shooting, an altercation erupted between several young men. One of them then pulled out a gun and started shooting at random. Videos of the attack appeared on social media in the minutes following the attack, showing people running and ducking for cover as gunshots sounded in the air. Other videos showed the police and some bystanders aiding those injured in the shooting.
