Nice attacker plotted for months, had accomplices
The man who drove a box truck into a crowd of Bastille Day revelers in Nice, France, last week plotted the attack for months and had help, prosecutors said today. Police have arrested four men and one woman who allegedly gave attacker Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel logistical support. None of the suspects raised alerts with French intelligence officials before the attack, which left 84 people dead. Investigators say one of the detained men exchanged text messages about weapons with Lahouaiej-Bouhlel the night of the attack. Police found a Kalashnikov rifle and ammunition in the suspect’s home. All five suspects are expected to appear in court soon to face terrorism charges. Lahouaiej-Bouhlel died in a barrage of police gunfire the night of the attack.
