NATO militaries analyze Russian missile strike
The Pentagon on Thursday confirmed that the missile the Kremlin used to attack Ukraine’s Dnipro region earlier that day was an intermediate range ballistic missile. The Pentagon described it as an experimental weapon. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh added that, ahead of the strike, the Kremlin very briefly notified the United States through channels the countries use to reduce the risk of nuclear incidents. The missile carried a conventional warhead but Russian forces could outfit the missile design with a nuclear warhead, Singh said at a news briefing.
What are other countries saying about this? The United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Defense John Healey on Thursday accused Russia of irresponsibly escalating its conflict in Ukraine. The Deputy Chief of the UK’s Defense Staff, Lt. Gen. Rob Magowan, met with members of parliament on Thursday. During that meeting, he told them that the British army was prepared to go to war with Russia at any moment, according to the British military-focused outlet Forces News.
