NASA spacecraft reaches Jupiter
The NASA spacecraft Juno arrived in Jupiter’s orbit Monday for its 20-month study of what lies beneath the cloud cover of the solar system’s largest planet. At NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., scientists celebrated the completion of the solar-powered craft’s five-year journey. “We’re there. We’re in orbit. We conquered Jupiter,” Juno chief scientist Scott Bolton said during a post-mission briefing. NASA hopes the mission will answer unknowns about Jupiter such as whether the planet has water and a solid core.
