Musk, Ramaswamy plan to defund Planned Parenthood
The leaders of Trump’s newly announced Department of Government Efficiency this week announced their plans to cut funding to abortion provider Planned Parenthood. Trump allies and businessmen Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy promised in a Wall Street Journal op-ed Wednesday to cut nearly $300 million in federal funds to the abortion provider and other groups like it.
What do pro-life groups have to say about this? Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America on Wednesday praised Musk and Ramaswamy for their plans to defund Planned Parenthood. The organization killed 392,715 unborn children in one year and listed $2.5 billion in net assets in its last annual report, SBA said. Planned Parenthood does not need taxpayer funding, the pro-life group said.
Americans United for Life told WORLD on Friday that there was no place for taxpayer dollars in Planned Parenthood’s budget. The group also explained that there are 10 times as many federally qualified healthcare centers across the country, and they provide more comprehensive services than Planned Parenthood facilities do. Those organizations can address the needs of communities and individuals better than Planned Parenthood would, the group said.
What does Planned Parenthood have to say? The abortion provider said that cutting its funding would disrupt the American public health system and deprive women of essential health care. The organization promised to push back on efforts by Ramaswamy and Musk, saying they’d already fought similar measures during Trump’s first term in the White House.
