Mother dies of coronavirus after having baby
COVID-19 claimed the life of a pregnant hospital nurse in England. But doctors were able to save her infant daughter, delivering her by emergency cesarean section. Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong, 28, tested positive for the disease on April 5, was admitted to Luton and Dunstable University Hospital where she worked on April 7, and died on Sunday, according to the BBC.
How is her family? A hospital spokesperson said Agyapong’s “child was doing very well.” Her husband is self-isolating while awaiting results from a COVID-19 test. Colleagues set up a fundraising page for the family that brought in thousands of British pounds within hours. David Carter, CEO of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said she was a “fantastic nurse and a great example of what we stand for.”
