More U.S. lawmakers visit Taiwan

Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., led a five-member delegation to the disputed island Sunday. The lawmakers planned to meet with leaders in the Taiwanese government and the private sector to talk about investments in semiconductors and security in the Taiwan Strait. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., visited Taiwan less than two weeks ago, drawing condemnation from China, which considers the self-governing island its property.

How is China reacting now? Chinese warplanes have continued crossing the midpoint of the Taiwan Strait on a daily basis even after ending military exercises last Wednesday. Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said 10 Chinese planes crossed on Sunday.
