Mississippi student sentenced for supporting ISIS
An American Muslim woman who planned to join Islamic State (ISIS) was sentenced to 12 years in prison by a federal judge today. Vicksburg, Miss., native Jaelyn Young converted to Islam in March 2015 while she was a student at Mississippi State University. Authorities said she began supporting ISIS after watching online videos. In August 2015, she and her fiancé, Muhammad Dakhlalla, who pleaded guilty to similar charges, were arrested trying to board a flight to Turkey. From there, Young had planned to cross into Syria and possibly become a medic for ISIS wounded. In the process of planning the trip, Young spoke with undercover FBI agents, which led to her arrest.
