Missile that downed MH17 came from Russian military
An international team of investigators said Thursday they are sure the missile that shot down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over eastern Ukraine in 2014 came from a Russia-based military unit. The Boeing 777 passenger jet went down en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, killing all 298 passengers and crew members. Investigators have traced the missile to the Russian military’s 53rd anti-aircraft brigade based in the city of Kursk. Using a mobile launcher trucked in from Russia and hastily returned there, Russian-backed rebels fired from territory they controlled in eastern Ukraine, the team said. Prosecutors said they have presented their findings to Moscow and are seeking answers, but so far have not received a response. Russia has always denied involvement in the downing of the passenger jet.
