Military enforces driving ban in Buffalo
At least 30 people died in Buffalo, N.Y., as of Tuesday, and now the military is stationed at intersections and entrances to the city to keep people from driving on dangerous roads. Major roads have been cleared, but snow still covers many roads. Erie County Executive Mark Polocarz said some people were driving even under the ban, so the New York State National Guard sent in 100 military police officers to enforce the driving ban.
When will the weather ease? The National Weather Service predicts warmer temperatures in the city later in the week, but county officials warned warmer temperatures may bring flooding as the six-foot-deep snow melts. Meteorologists expected Buffalo to get another two inches of snow on Tuesday. Some deaths were caused by emergency responders not being able to reach people because of the snow, while other people died while shoveling snow or after being trapped in their cars.
