Midday Roundup: Is the millennials' love affair with Obama over?

Youth revolt. Americans under 30 are concerned about the future and are pointing their fingers at the current occupant of the Oval Office for their bleak outlook, according to a survey conducted by Harvard University’s Institute of Politics. In fact, 47 percent of millennials said they would like to throw President Barack Obama out of office, with 52 percent of the youngest members of this group (18 to 24) saying Obama should go. On the topic of Obamacare, 57 percent of millennials disapprove of the president’s signature law, with 40 percent saying it will make their quality of care worse and a majority believing it will end up costing them considerably more. It’s essential for healthy young people to enroll in the healthcare exchanges in order to adequately fund Obamacare, but, according to this survey, less than one-third of those 18 to 29 currently without health insurance plan to sign up for Obamacare.

The Bible and politics. Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., finds himself in a heated race to keep his seat in 2014. His support for Obamacare and the president’s political agenda (with the exception of voting against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s nuclear option) make him especially vulnerable in a solidly red state. In attempt to turn the tide in his campaign, Pryor has released an ad where he stresses his faith and reliance on Scripture. “I’m not ashamed to say that I believe in God, and I believe in His Word,” Pryor says while holding an open Bible in a living room setting. “The Bible teaches us no one has all the answers. Only God does. And neither political party is always right.” Pryor will face Republican Rep. Tom Cotton next fall.

Hezbollah leader killed. Hezbollah military leader Hassane Laqees was assassinated today in parking lot near an apartment where he either stayed or worked south of Beruit, Lebanon, according to Lebanese news reports. Hezbollah blamed Israel for the killing, but Israeli officials denied any involvement, adding that they believed Laqees’ assassination was carried out by radical Sunnis and is related to the civil war in Syria. Hezbollah, a Shiite group, is aligned with Iran and the Syrian government, while its Sunni rivals back the rebels in Syria.

Free Saeed. A social media campaign was launched this morning to encourage Americans to contact their representatives, senators, and President Obama, asking them to take immediate action to free Iranian-American pastor Saeed Abedini from prison in Iran (see video clip below). The campaign also asks participants to change their Facebook profile and cover photos to show solidarity with the campaign and encourage others to take part. The fifth and final step in the posted instructions is to pray: “Pray that God amplifies our voices and that they carry with them the power of the Holy Spirit.”
