Michigan man yelled ‘Allahu akbar’ during attack on officer
UPDATE: Federal prosecutors have charged Amor Ftouhi of Quebec, Canada, with committing violence at an airport for Wednesday’s stabbing of a police officer at Bishop International Airport in Flint, Mich. Ftouhi, in addition to shouting “Allahu akbar,” said something similar to “you have killed people in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and we are all going to die” during the attack, according to the FBI.
OUR EARLIER REPORT (3:06 p.m.): The FBI is investigating the stabbing of a police officer at the airport in Flint, Mich., as a possible terror incident, officials said Wednesday afternoon. The attacker, who is in custody but has not been identified, yelled “Allahu akbar,” the Arabic phrase for “God is great,” according to witnesses. Lt. Jeff Neville with the Bishop International Airport police suffered a stab wound to the neck. A police spokesman said doctors treating Neville have upgraded his condition from critical to stable. No one else suffered injuries. Investigators said they do not believe anyone else was involved but also cautioned all possibilities are “on the table.” Police evacuated the airport after the attack and stepped up security at the nearby city hall as a precaution.
